WILLEMSTAD – On the afternoon of Thursday, January 30, the Maritime Operations Center (MOC) of the Coast Guard received an urgent call from the Curaçao Police Force (KPC) requesting assistance in the Christoffelberg area.
The request concerned a 51-year-old Dutch tourist who had injured herself and was unable to descend the mountain on her own. Upon receiving the call, the Coast Guard’s helicopter unit was immediately mobilized to the location.
To assist the helicopter crew in locating the injured woman, constant communication with MOC personnel was maintained. Once the individual was found, she was quickly prepared for evacuation and transported by helicopter to HATO airport. There, she was met by ambulance personnel and transferred to the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) for further treatment.
Authorities have not disclosed further details on the tourist’s condition but emphasize the importance of safety measures when hiking in rugged terrain like Christoffelberg.
