Coast Guard on high alert following Venezuelan elections

Local | By Correspondent August 5, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Coast Guard is closely monitoring developments in Venezuela, according to a spokesperson for the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard.

“We are always vigilant about situations at sea, but we are paying extra attention to the situation in Venezuela,” the spokesperson stated. The Coast Guard is prepared to respond immediately to any illegal crossings by Venezuelans.

Earlier this week, Aruba's Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes warned of a possible increase in Venezuelans attempting to reach the ABC islands by sea. The Coast Guard has stated that it is deploying all its boats, planes, and helicopters to secure the coasts and is urging people to report any possible illegal entries.
