WILLEMSTAD - On Monday afternoon, the Coast Guard detected a suspicious contact heading towards Curaçao. Following this detection, the Coast Guard's Maritime Operations Center directed a patrol boat to intercept the suspicious vessel. Upon arrival at the vessel, it was escorted by the patrol boat to the Coast Guard pier for an onboard inspection. Once at the pier, the Coast Guard, along with customs officials, conducted a thorough search of the boat.
Onboard the local fishing boat, 223 packages were found, containing a total of 260 kilograms of cocaine. The drugs and the four Curaçaoan men on board were handed over to the Curaçao Police Force. The drugs have since been destroyed.
