WILLEMSTAD - On Saturday, the Coast Guard intercepted a boat that had just returned from open waters. It was a fishing vessel that had collected a load of fish to take to the market.
The Coast Guard had been monitoring the movements of this boat for some time. At sea, a metalshark intercepted the vessel and escorted it to Spanish Water, after which they headed towards the fishing port of Caracasbaai.
There, in the presence of Customs, the boat underwent a thorough inspection. This inspection revealed a significant quantity of drugs hidden on board.
Both crew members were arrested and subsequently taken to the police station. The drug-laden boat was transported to the Coast Guard base in Parera, where further investigation into the vessel will take place, including determining the amount of drugs concealed on board.
