WILLEMSTAD - The Coast Guard intercepted a suspicious boat on Saturday morning, which contained multiple packages of drugs and three weapons, according to a report from the Caribbean Coast Guard on Sunday.
The Coast Guard detected the suspicious vessel at sea near Aruba’s Eagle Beach and dispatched a land patrol. Upon the patrol's arrival, the occupants of the boat managed to escape.
Two of the suspects, a Venezuelan man and a Colombian man, were quickly found and apprehended by the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard proceeded to inspect the boat, discovering drug packages totaling more than 700 kilos. Three weapons were also found on board. The two suspects, the drugs, and the weapons have been handed over to the Aruba Police Force.
During the mission, the Coast Guard helicopter was also deployed to monitor the area for suspicious activities. The Aruba Police Force is conducting further investigations into the case.
