| By Correspondent March 5, 2026

PHILIPSBURG – The Caribbean Coast Guard has deployed additional personnel and equipment for the 46th edition of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, which begins today and runs through Sunday, March 8.

According to the Coast Guard, the annual sailing event is included in its operational planning each year, allowing for the deployment of extra staff and specialized training in preparation for the large number of vessels and visitors expected during the regatta.

Additional equipment has also been prepared to help ensure safety on the water throughout the event.

During the races, Coast Guard units will patrol the waters around St. Maarten using vessels such as the Metal Shark patrol boats and the cutter Poema. Their presence is intended to monitor maritime activity, prevent incidents and respond quickly if assistance is required.

The Coast Guard will work closely with several other agencies, including the Sint Maarten Police Force, the Royal Netherlands Marines, customs authorities and the immigration service.

Together, the agencies will conduct joint patrols in the island’s territorial waters to help maintain safety and order during one of the Caribbean’s largest sailing events.
