WILLEMSTAD - In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Coast Guard of Curaçao made a remarkable catch. A local boat, heading towards Curaçao, was detected on radar and subsequently intercepted by a Metal Shark unit of the Coast Guard. Inspection revealed an unusual cargo: twelve crates filled with exotic animals.
The boat did not have the necessary documentation for importing these animals to Curaçao, leading to the immediate seizure of the cargo. The veterinary service has been called upon to take care of the confiscated animals.
This action underscores the commitment of the Coast Guard, also to protect local flora and fauna and enforce legislation regarding the import and export of animals.
