WILLEMSTAD – The Caribbean Coast Guard provided assistance Wednesday evening following a maritime incident near Barcadera. The Maritime Operations Center (MOC) received a report that a sailboat had run aground on a reef and become stuck, prompting the deployment of a Metal Shark patrol vessel to the area.

Upon arrival, Coast Guard personnel found a stranded sailboat with two men on the reef. According to their account, they were en route to Aruba when the vessel struck the reef near Barcadera. During the incident, one of the men sustained injuries.

With assistance from a local vessel, the two men were safely removed from the reef. The Coast Guard then brought both individuals aboard the Metal Shark patrol boat and transported them to the Daltra pier in Barcadera.

An ambulance was waiting at the pier to provide medical attention to the injured man. Authorities have not disclosed the nature of his injuries.

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
