Coast Guard and Aruba Police collaborate in apprehending 12 individuals aboard suspicious vessel

ORANJESTAD - In a joint operation between the Coast Guard and the Aruba Police Force (KPA), a suspicious vessel heading towards Aruba was intercepted last night, resulting in the arrest of 12 individuals. The vessel, identified as a 'yola,' was detected by radar, prompting swift action from the authorities. 

As units were dispatched to intercept the vessel, the KPA helicopter illuminated the area, providing crucial support to the operation. Members of the Metal Shark, a specialized unit, successfully apprehended 11 Venezuelans and 1 Colombian who were onboard. 

Upon inspection of the vessel, authorities discovered packages weighing over 600 kilograms. The nature of the contents is currently under investigation. The 12 individuals were safely brought ashore and subsequently handed over to the Aruba Police Force for further processing. 

The incident concluded with an unexpected turn, as the intercepted vessel ultimately sank. Authorities are now working to determine the circumstances surrounding the sinking.
