WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has reported that its Emergency Department (ED) treated 1,706 patients in June 2024. According to the hospital, more than half of these patients were self-referred, and 60% were able to return home after their visit to the ED.
In light of these statistics, the CMC is urging the community to utilize the General Practitioners' Post (HAP) for non-life-threatening urgent care. This approach will allow the ED to focus on the most critical cases.
In its June activity report, the CMC emphasized that the HAP is fully equipped to provide urgent medical care outside of regular hours. The post was specifically established to alleviate the pressure on the ED by handling non-critical cases efficiently. The hospital reiterated the importance of reserving ED resources for the most severe emergencies to ensure optimal care for all patients.
