WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) reported that 1,706 patients visited its emergency department (ED) in June. More than half of these patients were 'self-referrals,' according to the CMC's announcement on Monday.
Sixty percent of the patients treated in the ED did not require admission. The CMC emphasized the importance of using the general practitioners' post (HAP) for non-life-threatening situations to ensure that the ED can prioritize the most critical cases.
In addition to the activity in the ED, the CMC's outpatient clinic received 4,427 patients and conducted 8,065 follow-up visits during the same period. The hospital also reported 1,775 clinical admissions, with an average patient stay of 2.5 days.
