WILLEMSTAD - The Intensive Care department of Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) was full last Friday. According to sources, patients had to be transferred abroad.
Before the weekend, the hospital issued a call to take it easy, especially in traffic. There have been a lot of patients coming in lately due to car accidents, as a result of which the ICU has become overcrowded. CMC spokesperson Germaine Gibbs also reminds the public that patients should first contact their GP before going to the hospital's emergency room.
The CMC is concerned about capacity problems, especially in view of the upcoming carnival season. If the number of patients increases, there will again be no room for admissions, Gibbs emphasizes.
