CMC Hospital Department Shuts Down Amid Staff Complaints

WILLEMSTAD One of the departments at the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has come to a standstill, according to multiple media reports. The cause of the disruption appears to be mounting concerns over poor working conditions and excessive workloads.

Annaliza Suares-Mathilda, chair of the CBV labor union, confirmed that the situation in the affected department has been flagged multiple times in recent months. However, the hospital’s leadership has not yet disclosed which specific department has been affected. CMC's chair has declined to comment at this time.

Employees reportedly reached out to the union earlier this week to express their growing dissatisfaction with the working environment. In response, Suares-Mathilda visited the hospital to speak directly with staff and hear their complaints firsthand.

She stated that the union is currently assessing the situation and will consider what steps are necessary to address the workers' concerns and restore proper function to the department.

The CMC has not issued an official statement regarding the shutdown or the nature of the problems cited by the staff. The incident has raised fresh questions about internal management and staff well-being at the island’s main hospital.
