CMC engages in dialogue with Inspector General, withdraws threat of legal action

Local | By Correspondent July 7, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has opted for a constructive approach by initiating discussions with Inspector General Sirving Keli to address the instructions previously imposed on the hospital. In a recent statement, CMC confirmed that it will not pursue further legal proceedings.

Gilbert Martina, CEO of the hospital, emphasized that the well-being and safety of their patients remain their top priorities. Martina expressed the belief that open dialogue and collaboration are crucial in effectively addressing any concerns raised by the Health Inspectorate.

As per the instructions from the Inspectorate, CMC patients will now be referred to Advent Hospital in order to manage waiting lists more efficiently. Additionally, CMC will actively focus on staff recruitment, particularly in securing specialized professionals.

To ensure a comprehensive response, the hospital has committed to holding weekly meetings with Inspector General Keli, aiming to address the instructions and uphold the highest standards of healthcare at CMC. Martina stressed the importance of dialogue and collaboration, stating that CMC is fully dedicated to working in tandem with Keli and his team.

This decision marks a shift from CMC's previous stance, where they had threatened legal action if the Public Health Inspectorate did not withdraw the instructions. By choosing dialogue over litigation, CMC demonstrates its commitment to resolving the issues raised by the Inspectorate in a cooperative manner.
