WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has firmly distanced itself from the conclusions of a report by the Inspector General of Public Health, Sirving Keli. The report, shared on social media in February by Minister Javier Silvania, alleged that a patient had died in March 2021 due to the administration of a toxic substance. According to the CMC, these findings are incorrect.
Both the hospital’s complaints committee and the independent Medical Disciplinary Board concluded, after thorough investigations, that the patient did not die from a toxic substance but from natural causes. These conclusions were supported by autopsy and toxicology reports, the CMC stated.
The CMC called the Inspector General's accusations unfounded, emphasizing that they have caused serious harm to the hospital’s reputation. “It is important for the public to know that we conducted our due diligence and that the investigation was carried out with the utmost care,” the hospital noted in a press release.
The CMC is exploring the possibility of taking legal action against the Inspector General. However, the hospital has declined to provide further details on the case, citing confidentiality.
