CMC and Medical Specialists Continue Negotiations Amid Staffing Crisis

Local | By Correspondent January 17, 2025

WILLEMSTADNegotiations between the management of Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) and medical specialists, represented by the Landelijke Vereniging van Medische Professionals in dienstverband Curaçao (LVMPIDC), are ongoing under an agreed media blackout.

The discussions focus on resolving dissatisfaction over chronic staffing shortages, high workloads, and insufficient commitments from CMC. The specialists have threatened to work strictly according to their contracts, which could further strain the healthcare system.

The situation is reportedly alarming, with CMC sending a letter of concern to Health, Environment, and Nature Minister Javier Silvania (MFK), warning of the potential collapse of healthcare services due to overburden. A potential solution suggested is to exempt specialists from the "Landsverordening normering topinkomens" (LNT), or to raise the income cap.

While both sides are determined to find a resolution, it remains uncertain whether an agreement will be reached. Further details will only be released once a decision is made.
