WILLEMSTAD - Today, the justice system in Curaçao took action against a court clerk from the criminal division of the Court of First Instance. The individual in question is a Dutch clerk who typically sits alongside the judge in criminal cases. He has been arrested and is currently in custody on suspicion of rape, or sexual abuse.
Very little information is being released regarding the case, with both the courthouse and the Public Prosecutor’s Office remaining silent. The investigation is still ongoing.
This case is considered highly regrettable within the justice system, as it affects both the involved institutions and the public perception of justice in Curaçao. The clerk, along with the judges, is usually seen as a symbol of independence and reliability.
