Cleanup day around art in Seru Papaya neighborhood

Local | By Correspondent June 21, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - On July 7, visual artists Avantia Damberg and Alena Davidovich are organizing a cleanup day around the artworks in the Seru Papaya neighborhood. The event marks the culmination of a project involving local artists and young people.

A year ago, visual artists Avantia Damberg and Alena Davidovich beautified the Seru Papaya stairs with a stunning design. In recent weeks, these artists conducted a sculpture design workshop for two young men from the neighborhood.

The sculptures, designed around trash bins, aim to ensure that litter is no longer thrown out of car windows onto the street but instead ends up in the bins. These sculptures, called Trash Catchers, were supported by a welding workshop provided by Ronald Bertram.

The cleanup day on July 7 will focus on tidying up around the stairs and along the road where the Trash Catchers will be placed. The initiative serves as a pilot and will be enhanced with music, a provided lunch, and special appearances by the "Trash Queens."

Residents of Seru Papaya who wish to participate can sign up with Meredith at +599 9 515 4494 or Shanny at +5999 5290725 until June 30.
