Minister Larmonie-Cecilia Emphasizes Focus on Labor and Social Welfare Through Collaboration Between Unions and Government.

WILLEMSTAD - The CLATE conference, held from May 28 to 31 in Curaçao, was a significant success. Minister Larmonie-Cecilia of Social Affairs and Labor (SOAW) reaffirmed the commitment of the Curaçao government to improve labor and social welfare by strengthening collaboration between unions and the government. The minister stressed that only through a focus on dialogue and unity can social benefits and adequate salary payments be realized.

During her speech at the CLATE conference, Minister Larmonie-Cecilia emphasized her intention to put Curaçao on the international map in the field of labor and to gain global recognition in the labor sector. Minister Larmonie-Cecilia said, "This event has reaffirmed the importance of our collective mission and the necessity to continue working together for the rights of all workers. Individually, we are lost." After her speech, Julio Fuentes, president of CLATE, expressed his gratitude for the minister's presence and presented her with a gift on behalf of the confederation, thanking her for the solidarity and brotherhood they had received.

Delegations from various countries, such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Cuba, presented their reports, highlighting the challenges and successes in their countries and thus contributing to a collective understanding and strategic planning of the conference. The conference also included an emotional tribute to Norita Cortiñas, a founding member of the Madres de Plaza de Mayo, who passed away at the age of 94. Adrie Williams, leader of the ABVO, one of the host organizations, provided information about the history of Curaçao, spoke about the island's struggle for freedom and equality, and its influence on independence movements throughout the Caribbean.

The Curaçao Declaration, read by Darío Fuentes of the CLATE presidential team and Silvia Tejera, Secretary-General of ADEOM Uruguay, was unanimously approved by all delegations. This declaration reaffirms the commitment to collective labor goals and emphasizes the necessity of a democratic and socially just state.

Minister Larmonie-Cecilia stressed that the successful dialogue and collaboration with the unions, which promoted the conference, are essential steps to achieving better social outcomes and fair payment for all workers. This event marks significant progress in Curaçao's efforts to gain international recognition and leadership in labor relations. The government of Curaçao remains committed to promoting an inclusive and just work environment for all its citizens.
