Civil servants' unions in talks with BPD minister

Local | By Correspondent September 20, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The six civil servants' unions are in talks with Minister of Administration, Planning and Services (BPD) Ornelio Martina about the 12.5 percent salary cut. This was announced by the chairman of the ABVO union George Hernandez.

It has been agreed that both sides will not disclose the exact content of the talks, but Hernandez does say that they will continue soon. According to the ABVO chairman, this is 'something that will have to happen in the short term'.

The 12.5 percent discount on civil servants' salaries was introduced in 2020 to meet the conditions of the Netherlands for receiving liquidity support. The unions now want to get rid of the discount, but the Netherlands wants the standard for top incomes to be implemented first.
