CITRO and Coast Guard sign new collaboration agreement

Local | By Press release May 6, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Last week, CITRO signed a new collaboration agreement with the Coast Guard. Present at the CITRO boathouse were Adriaan van der Hoeven, Chairman, Sue-Wen van Daalen, Secretary, Sonia Moniz de Faria, Treasurer, Lusette Verboom, Virgill Kemper, and Izzy Gerstenbluth for CITRO. Representing the Caribbean Coast Guard were Director of the Coast Guard, Walter Hansen, Head of Operations, Martin van Lavieren, and Head of the Maritime Operations Center, Mirko Kessen.

The Director of the Coast Guard has known CITRO for 25 years, dating back to his first visit to Curaçao as commander of the coast guard cutter Jaguar, and later when he served as Head of Operations of the Coast Guard. He emphasized how remarkable it was that CITRO was a crucial partner for the Coast Guard. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that an organization entirely run by volunteers can play such a significant role as a stable chain partner of the Coast Guard in saving lives at sea.
