CINCINNATI - This week, the American professional baseball team Cincinnati Reds signed contracts with two young Aruban players. On the first day teams were allowed to sign players, Cincinnati Reds secured the signings of Arubans Juan Brown and Riangelo Richardson, part of a group of eighteen players, including three from Curaçao.
In Willemstad, the signed players are Shendrion Martinus, Naterich Waterfort, and Person Revierre. The fourth youngster, Curley Martha, signed with the Texas Rangers, who had a scout in Curaçao, along with the support of Yurendell de Caster, who prepared the young players for this significant day.
Cincinnati Reds also inked contracts with five players from the Dominican Republic and seven from Venezuela.
The next step for these young talents is to hear from their respective organizations, where they need to report for their preparation within a few weeks. Most MLB teams have their training camps in the Dominican Republic.
The Reds have more than six million dollars available to spend on the players they sign. While the official signing of players occurs once approved by the office of the Major League Baseball Commissioner, this is considered a formality.
