Cijntje does not want forensic report on Aqualectra made public

WILLEMSTAD - The forensic report commissioned by the Supervisory Board of Aqualectra regarding the company's daily management will not be made public. This was stated by Minister of Economic Development, Ruisandro Cijntje, in response to questions from Giselle Mc William, the party leader of MAN in parliament. She had raised questions in January about the situation regarding electricity supply in Curaçao.

There has been significant controversy surrounding the forensic report, which apparently led the Supervisory Board to suspend the former director of Aqualectra, Darick Jones, who in turn decided to resign from his position.

“Regarding the forensic report, the government has sought legal advice to determine whether legal action should be taken against the management and/or the Supervisory Board. The results of this legal analysis have recently been completed, and the government is currently reviewing them to make an appropriate announcement,” Cijntje said.

Blackout

The independent investigative report from the Regulatory Authority Curaçao (RAC) is available on the RAC website, the minister added. Mc William also inquired about the number of reports compiled following the latest blackout in Curaçao.

Aqualectra conducts its own internal investigations and has also requested a Dutch expertise firm (DNV GL) to carry out a thorough investigation. Additionally, as the representative of the shareholder and Minister of Economic Development, I asked RAC to conduct an independent investigation,” said Cijntje.

Based on the recommendations from the reports on the latest blackout, Aqualectra has developed an implementation plan. “70 percent of the recommendations have already been implemented. The recommendations that have not yet been executed are dependent on long delivery times for the required materials and components. Aqualectra expects that by the end of the year or the first quarter of next year, all recommendations will be implemented,” Cijntje added.
