WILLEMSTAD - Cicely van der Dijs, the former wife of former Prime Minister Schotte, will be released on March 18. Then she served exactly six months in prison. The release was confirmed by her lawyer, Marije Vaders.
She was sentenced in 2017 to a 15-month prison sentence, with six months suspended for money laundering and possession of cell phone jammers, which disrupt the telecommunications network.
The money laundering was related to the official corruption by her then husband Schotte in his time as first prime minister of Curaçao.
The fact that Van der Dijs did not immediately go to prison had to do with the home situation. Her then-husband was serving a three-year sentence, while they both have two children.
