WILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN) is still not taking any action after promising to find a solution for evening-night-weekend care (ANW care). The Curaçao Association of General Practitioners (CHV) has been advocating for this solution in the form of a GP post for more than ten years but does not yet see any effect of that agreement. The association reports this in a press release.
The reason for ANW care is that patients must always receive high quality care. That is not yet the case, because GPs are struggling with a lack of time. In addition, GPs sometimes work longer than 48 hours, something that is no longer feasible. Minister Pietersz-Janga of the Ministry of Health has previously made a promise to CHV that a GP station would be set up as of March 1 this year, which would reduce the workload outside working days.
Nevertheless, nothing has changed yet, according to CHV.
By deploying extra care in the evenings, nights and weekends, the workload of the hospital and the emergency department is also reduced. This allows them to focus on emergencies. An emergency meeting has been scheduled for this Tuesday at the initiative of CHV to discuss the current situation.
Minister Pietersz-Janga has been invited to explain the future perspective. All members of CHV are welcome. The meeting starts at 08:00 and lasts until 12:00. There will be no regular GP care during these hours. However, there is a general practitioner available who is deployed at several practices, so that emergencies receive the necessary care.
