Local | By Correspondent December 27, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Over the Christmas holidays, Curaçao police handled multiple incidents, including arrests, traffic accidents, and the seizure of 58 vehicles. A total of six people, including five men and one woman, were arrested in connection with offenses such as assault, drug law violations, and immigration law breaches. Police also provided assistance at two traffic accidents involving injuries.

Traffic Accidents

The first accident occurred on December 25 around 7:00 AM when a driver lost control of their vehicle on Madelsonweg and veered off the road. The fire department was called to free the driver from the wreckage, while the female passenger was transported to the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) with multiple injuries.

The second accident happened on December 26 at approximately 12:45 AM near Post 5. A right-of-way violation led to a collision between two vehicles, leaving four people injured. Three of the victims were taken to the CMC by ambulance, while one person was advised to seek medical attention from their general practitioner.

Vehicle Seizures

As part of the “Fin di aña sin zanzaña” campaign, police seized 58 vehicles over the past week. Most of these vehicles lacked proper insurance. In some cases, owners also failed to provide a valid inspection certificate or paid license plates. Five vehicles were returned to their owners after the necessary documents were provided.

Police emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and ensuring that vehicles meet all legal requirements, especially during the holiday season.
