WILLEMSTAD – The Chinese Consul General has expressed serious concern over the growing number of robberies targeting Chinese business owners in Curaçao. This concern was highlighted during a conference held at the World Trade Center (WTC) yesterday, which was attended by many local entrepreneurs.
According to figures presented during the conference, Curaçao registered 133 robberies in 2023, of which 13 were carried out against Chinese businesses and four at the homes of Chinese entrepreneurs. So far this year, 41 robberies have been reported, including seven incidents involving Chinese-owned establishments and two at residences.
In response to these alarming statistics, the Chinese Consulate has contacted the Curaçao Police Force (KPC) to discuss how the consulate might support the investigative process and help improve services for Chinese business owners.
The conference also addressed consular protection, highlighting the consulate's role in safeguarding the rights and welfare of Chinese nationals abroad. The Consul General stressed the importance of collaboration with local authorities to prevent further incidents and ensure that Chinese entrepreneurs can operate in a safe and secure environment.
