WILLEMSTAD – Acting Chinese Consul General Wang Fanfu has voiced serious concern about the increasing number of robberies targeting Chinese entrepreneurs on Curaçao. His remarks come amid a growing sense of insecurity within the local Chinese community.
During a recent meeting with local authorities, Fanfu stressed that he represents all Chinese nationals residing in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. He cited multiple recent incidents—including a violent home invasion—as evidence of the mounting threat to Chinese residents on the island.
The consul called on local officials to strengthen police cooperation and improve protections for the Chinese community. He emphasized that the situation requires immediate attention to prevent further harm and to maintain trust between communities.
Despite the troubling trend, Fanfu expressed his appreciation for Curaçao’s hospitality and underscored the importance of mutual understanding, collaboration, and sustainable development between China and Curaçao.
The call for enhanced security comes as Chinese-owned businesses continue to play a vital role in the island’s retail and service sectors, making their safety a concern not only for the Chinese community but for the broader economic stability of Curaçao.
