Children in Curaçao opt for screen-free playtime

Local | By Correspondent September 25, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - This coming Saturday, September 28, the Children’s Museum Curaçao will once again host Play Fair, a vibrant event celebrating the Worldwide Day of Play. Children and families will leave screens behind and immerse themselves in the magic of free play.

Play Fair 2024 offers a diverse range of activities that ignite imagination and foster collaboration. From interactive games and creative crafting to athletic challenges and nature exploration, there is something for everyone. The event emphasizes the importance of reducing screen time in favor of physical, social, and creative play, which is essential for children’s well-being.

Rohani de Pont, director of the children’s museum, states, “Play Fair is a fantastic opportunity for families to rediscover the power of play together, away from screens and digital distractions. It helps young children develop essential skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity—qualities they do not learn from a screen.”

This year, the museum places special emphasis on inclusion and accessibility. Thanks to sponsors, children who might not otherwise be able to participate can join for free. Additionally, the event is fully accessible for children with disabilities, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the joy of free play.

Play Fair will take place from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Children’s Museum Curaçao.
