Chaplain prays at SDKK for ex-inmate who changed from gay to straight

WILLEMSTAD - Yesterday, Chaplain Martina of the SDKK prison, along with his group, prayed at the entrance of the prison for former inmate Osbaldo Peña Meran. Osbaldo, who left the prison fifteen years ago and now lives in Italy, changed from a homosexual to a heterosexual lifestyle during his detention.

Osbaldo, originally from the Dominican Republic, was sentenced to thirty years in prison for a serious crime. Upon his arrival in prison, he identified as homosexual and behaved like a woman. During his detention, he was sexually abused by fellow inmates.

After Chaplain Martina introduced him to faith, Osbaldo began to take an interest in Bible studies and underwent a remarkable transformation. He started dressing as a man, removed his wig, and cut off his long hair.

In 2002, Osbaldo was baptized along with 67 other inmates, after which he became a leader within the prison community and began to preach the gospel. Now, Osbaldo travels through Europe as an evangelist and is returning to Curaçao for a two-day evangelistic campaign. According to Martina, his visit is particularly significant for the island, especially now that the law has lifted the exclusivity of marriage between people of different sexes, as discrimination is constitutionally prohibited.

Chaplain Martina is proud of Osbaldo's transformation and considers his testimony a powerful message for anyone who wants to learn more about God.
