WILLEMSTAD - The Central General di Trahadonan di Korsou (CGTC) is expressing concerns over recent political developments in Curaçao and is calling for the restructuring of the Pisas II Cabinet.
The union specifically points to Finance Minister Javier Silvania (MFK), who, according to them, is governing the country unilaterally and authoritatively, with little regard for legitimate institutions. The union is particularly worried about recent government decisions, such as the massive tax forgiveness for ‘certain friends’ and the recent changes to waste disposal policies, which were adjusted following intervention from the BTG union.
“Democratic organs and procedures must be respected, and the government should not use the political crisis as an excuse to disregard laws and legitimate processes,” says CGTC. The union advocates for a government that promotes real and ongoing participation, involving workers and residents in significant decisions.
The union believes that political stability in Curaçao depends on a serious government that prioritizes the interests of the people and the working class.
According to CGTC, unions will take decisive steps. “These steps should involve a mix of actions and compromises at various levels, aiming to improve the political situation from a practical union perspective,” says CGTC.
