Cft shatters Curaçao's 30 million loan dream

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao is not allowed to borrow money from the Netherlands. The Financial Supervision Board reports this in response to the fourth implementation report 2019.

This shows an expected deficit on the regular service of approximately 20 million guilders, which does not meet the financial instruction and article 15 of the Financial Supervision Act.

For that reason, the Committee does not give a positive advice on the loan application of 31.5 million guilders, which Curaçao asked for in mid-December.

The Netherlands wants to allow Curaçao to borrow money in the context of the Growth Agreement will also be jeopardized with this advice. But Curaçao has not yet formally applied for this.

The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations is in trouble with the advice of the Cft. It is known that the Rutte government would like to lend money to Curaçao to make investments regarding the Growth Agreement.

The Progress Committee on Growth Agreement has informed The Hague that Curaçao meets all the agreed conditions. Minister Raymond Knops gave the green light, but demanded that the application should go through the usual assessment of Curaçao and Sint Maarten Financial Supervision Board.
