Governor's residence opens to the public with tours, workshops, and activities
WILLEMSTAD - To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Governor of Curaçao, Her Excellency Lucille George-Wout, will open the Governor's Residence to the public on Saturday, December 14, and Sunday, December 15 (Kingdom Day).
The Charter, established on December 15, 1954, forms the foundation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It governs the cooperation and autonomy of the countries within the Kingdom— the Netherlands, Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten. This milestone document holds significant historical and social importance and has played a crucial role in the democratic development of Curaçao.
Activities and Highlights
Throughout the Kingdom Day weekend, a variety of events will take place in and around the Governor's Residence. These include guided tours, workshops, and exhibitions. Specific rooms will feature collections curated by Museo Mongui Maduro and the Electoral Council, focusing on the creation of the Charter and the evolution of parliamentary democracy in the former Netherlands Antilles and Curaçao.
The Caribbean Coast Guard will host demonstrations in the Sint Anna Bay on both days at 10:15 AM. On Saturday, December 14, the day will conclude with a cultural evening in the garden of the Governor's Residence. The weekend will wrap up on Sunday, December 15, with a roundtable discussion featuring key representatives of Curaçao’s three branches of government (trias politica).
