THE HAGUE - The Dutch coalition party, CDA, is firm in its stance to ensure that a truly independent organization conducts the follow-up investigation into the state of education in Curaçao.
Joba van den Berg, Member of Parliament, presented a motion emphasizing the importance of external experts conducting the baseline measurement, as agreed upon in the Country Package. However, Secretary of State Alexandra Van Huffelen of Kingdom Relations granted the request of Heydoorn, Curaçao's Minister of Education, by assigning the investigation to the Inspectorate, with the support of the Dutch Education Inspectorate. The resulting report faced widespread criticism from the education sector.
Van Huffelen is of the opinion that Heydoorn will be able to resolve the issues with the school boards and questions the necessity of a follow-up investigation. She believes that intervention would be undesirable and therefore advises against the motion. The same position was taken by Van Huffelen concerning the motion proposed by Kauthar Bouchallikh (GroenLinks), which advocates for granting Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten sufficient time to repay the liquidity loans expiring on October 10th.
