CBS publishes results on research development construction permits

Local | By Correspondent April 21, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) presented the results of an investigation into the development of construction permits between 2010 and 2021 on its website. The analysis focuses on construction permits related to the total housing and apartment surface area during the mentioned period.

The main conclusion of the investigation is that for housing, the number of construction permits issued decreased by an average of 1.4%, while for apartments, the figure increased by an average of 13.6% between 2010 and 2021.

The investigation also relates to the results of previous research by CBS into the development of housing transactions (i.e., sales and housing prices), which also focused on the period from 2010 to 2021. When combining the current investigation's results with those of the housing transactions investigation, it confirms that there has been a substantial increase in investment in housing, particularly in the high-end vacation rental and (second) home construction market segments.

Overall, the CBS investigation sheds light on the development of construction permits in Curacao, providing valuable insights for policymakers, investors, and developers alike.
