CBS Participates in Three International and Regional Conferences

WILLEMSTAD – The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) of Curaçao recently participated in three significant international conferences. The aim was to strengthen ties with regional and international organizations for future collaboration, as well as to stay updated on the latest developments, technologies, and trends in the field of statistics. 

The conferences attended were: 

1. The 23rd Meeting of the Statistical Executive Committee of the Statistical Conference of the Americas of ECLAC 

This conference focused on two key areas: 

Regional Challenges: Discussions centered on addressing regional challenges in the new strategic plan for the period 2026-2035. This plan is crucial for enhancing statistical capacity and collaboration within the region to better prepare for future economic, social, and environmental challenges. 

Progress Review: The Executive Committee reviewed the implementation progress of the biennial program for regional and international collaborative activities for 2024-2025. 

2. CARICOM Population and Housing Census Symposium & Fourth High-Level Advocacy Forum (HLF) on Statistics 

The symposium’s theme was “Strengthening Statistics through the Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics for a Resilient Caribbean Community.” 

CBS Curaçao presented its experience with the fully digital execution of the 2023 census and provided updates on ongoing projects. 

Emphasis was placed on the need for creative approaches to statistical methods and on promoting the importance of statistics in policymaking. 

3. UN World Data Forum (UNWDF) in Medellín, Colombia 

The forum highlighted crucial topics such as data-driven decision-making, artificial intelligence, and inclusive development. 

It provided a platform for international collaboration and showcased innovative solutions to address social challenges. 

Outcomes and Benefits 

The participation in these three conferences proved to be both inspiring and impactful. CBS representatives gained valuable insights, established critical connections, and acquired knowledge that will enhance the role of data in promoting sustainability and decision-making. 

By attending these events, CBS reinforces its commitment to advancing statistical practices and ensuring that Curaçao remains aligned with global trends in data and statistics.
