THE HAGUE – Foundations and associations in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom can now apply for subsidies to professionalize their organizations. This is the first application period for the new subsidy program supporting initiatives related to the transatlantic slavery history.
Financial Support for Training and Website Development
Organizations can apply for a fixed amount of $10,000 (18,000 guilders) in this first round. The funds are intended for training, courses, or workshops for board members or staff. Additionally, organizations can use the subsidy to build or improve their websites.
Initiative Following Prime Minister’s Apology
The subsidy program stems from the apology offered by Prime Minister Mark Rutte on December 19, 2022, for the Netherlands' role in the history of slavery. For the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, nearly 63 million guilders have been allocated.
Eight Rounds of Funding Over Three Years
A total of eight application rounds will be held over the next three years, offering four different subsidies. Organizations can apply for funding for projects that contribute to raising awareness, recognition, and commemoration of the slavery past.
Next Round in December
The next application period will open on December 1, 2025, at 09:00 Dutch time and close on January 12, 2026, at 17:00 Dutch time. During this period, organizations can apply for subsidies ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 (18,000 to 45,000 guilders).
Organizations can visit the Legacy to Future Funds website for more information about the subsidy program. Applications will be processed through the Subsidy Portal of the Implementation of Policy Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment.
