Caribbean Guilder Becomes Official Currency in Curaçao and Sint Maarten

WILLEMSTAD As of today, the Caribbean guilder is officially the legal currency in both Curaçao and Sint Maarten, replacing the Antillean guilder, which is no longer valid for payments or transactions in either country.

Shops, restaurants, service providers, and government agencies will now accept only the new currency.

The introduction of the Caribbean guilder is being felt across the islands, including at Curaçao International Airport. In a press release, the airport announced that only the new currency will be accepted for all transactions going forward.

To ensure a smooth transition, especially for parking services, the airport has implemented a temporary arrangement. Visitors can use debit cards—either by swiping or contactless payment—at parking payment machines. For those wishing to pay with cash, only Caribbean guilders will be accepted, and such payments must be made at the Parking Office on-site.

The rollout marks a significant monetary shift for both islands, signaling the end of the long-standing Antillean guilder and the start of a new economic era in the Dutch Caribbean.
