WILLEMSTAD - The number of car thefts more than doubled in November compared to the previous month. While seven cars were taken by thieves then, this month there are already sixteen, according to the figures that the police publish every week.
The number of home burglaries, on the other hand, fell sharply. From 65 last month, to 28 this month. The police report goes up to and including November 27, so on average slightly more than one burglary per day.
House burglaries in Curaçao do not take place at night, as many people think, but between eleven in the morning and three in the afternoon.
The number of business burglaries also fell, from twenty in October to eight this month. Thieves prefer to choose the night and early morning to enter a business.
The other figures show that on average one car is broken into on the island every day. That was already the case in October.
The month of November also saw a drop in the number of times the police had to act because of domestic violence.
21 times this month and that is considerably less than the past three months, when the police had to intervene an average of 38 times a month.
