WILLEMSTAD – Business owners on Caracasbaaiweg have expressed outrage on social media over unannounced maintenance work by Aqualectra, the island’s utility company. The work, which took place today from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, left parts of the busy street without power during one of the most crucial shopping periods of the year.
Many shop owners were forced to close their doors, citing significant losses during what is typically a bustling pre-Christmas shopping season.
“It’s incomprehensible that during the final days before Christmas, Aqualectra would schedule maintenance without prior notice, leaving businesses to bear the financial consequences,” one frustrated business owner wrote on Facebook.
No Official Announcement
Adding to the frustration, Aqualectra did not announce any maintenance work for Caracasbaaiweg on its social media platforms. While the utility company has been conducting maintenance across the island in recent weeks, this particular outage appeared to catch many off guard.
Business owners are calling for better communication and planning from Aqualectra to avoid similar disruptions in the future, especially during peak shopping periods.
Aqualectra has not yet responded to the complaints.
