Bringing smiles to Curaçao’s Young “Warriors”: Sandals Foundation shares toys with children at the Ronald McDonald House

Local | By Press release December 3, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - As part of efforts to commemorate World Children’s Day (November 20th) and help bring joy to patients at the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) at the Ronald McDonald House Curaçao Foundation (RMHC), Sandals Foundation Ambassadors from Sandals Royal Curaçao recently delivered some 350 toys to the girls and boys at the facility – spreading cheer to the families, caretakers, and medical team present.

“As the boys and girls here at RMHC bravely face and tackle a most challenging part of their lives, it was important to us to help reignite that sense of wonder and magic that is captivated through play. These toys, more than ever, we hope, will allow them to get lost in the joy of playing even as they navigate such difficult circumstances,” said Jeffrey Speelman, general manager of Sandals Royal Curaçao.

The donation, which was made possible through partnership with United States toys company Hasbro, forms part of the Sandals Foundation’s longstanding mandate to use the reach of its network to nurture a sense of hope to the most vulnerable members of the communities in which it operates.

Claudia Rigaud, executive director RMHC Curaçao Foundation, expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying, “these toys will not only help brighten the children’s days, but they will bring joy to their families as well. We are happy to have you here today and to introduce you to our teams and some of our patients.”

As part of the visit, the hotel team was careful as they shared time with children and witnessed the work of the medical team across various wards, including the Children’s and NICU departments.

“We encourage everyone interested in volunteering at the RMHC to get involved. We are grateful to the extraordinary teams and medical professionals here and as we get set to enter the holiday season, we invite families across the island to see how they too can make a difference within their own communities and spaces.” said Speelman.
