WILLEMSTAD - The Fundashon Kas Popular (FKP), Wechi Management Company, and the Curaçao government have signed a landmark agreement, marking a significant breakthrough in the long-awaited development of the Wechi area. The plans for this project have been in the works since 1993, according to a government statement.
Affordable Housing to Address Shortage
The project, part of the "Mi Kas Awor" (My Home Now) initiative, focuses on constructing affordable and sustainable housing to help alleviate Curaçao's housing shortage. The development aims to provide quality homes for lower-income residents while addressing the growing demand for sustainable living solutions on the island.
In addition to residential units, the plan includes building two new roundabouts and other infrastructure enhancements to improve access and connectivity within the Wechi area.
Focus on Sustainability and Environmental Protection
According to the government, the Wechi development plan places a strong emphasis on sustainability, with particular attention given to environmental protection and water management. The project aims to create a model for eco-friendly growth, highlighting the importance of long-term social and economic sustainability for Curaçao.
"This collaboration underscores the commitment to fostering sustainable development that benefits the community and supports the island's growth," the government statement added.
The agreement signals a new chapter for the Wechi area, bringing closer the realization of a project that has been anticipated for decades and promising to address critical housing needs while enhancing the region's infrastructure.
