THE HAGUE - There will be a joint committee for the border between Dutch and French Sint Maarten.
This is evident from the decision of the Kingdom Council of Ministers to give the Minister of Foreign Affairs Wopke Hoekstra the green light for concluding a treaty between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the French Republic regarding the demarcation of the border on Sint Maarten. The issue has been debated for centuries.
The treaty also provides for a regulation for the conservation and maintenance of the border, the mutual rights of citizens in (cross-border) inland waterways, the legal position of natural and legal persons affected by the treaty and the establishment of a joint border committee.
Hoekstra will conclude the treaty and submit the proposal for approval to the Advisory Division of the Council of State of the Kingdom for advice.
