Bon Bini ranked Curaçao’s most affordable supermarket for basic goods, consumer foundation finds

WILLEMSTAD - Bon Bini Supermarket offers the best prices for 35 out of 128 basic products surveyed across 17 supermarkets, according to a new report published by Fundashon pa Konsumidó.

The latest study follows earlier comparisons of meat, fish, fruit, and vegetables. This time, the consumer foundation focused specifically on staple goods essential for everyday living.

17 supermarkets included in the survey

The price comparison was conducted between October 15 and 20, 2024, and included the following supermarkets:
Van den Tweel, Arco Iris, Best Buy, Bon Bini, Boulevard Market Place, Centrum Mahaai, Centrum Piscadera, Carrefour, Timmy, EsperamosMangusa Rio, Mangusa Hypermarket, Ruyterkade, Vreugdenhil, Luna Park, LZF, and Queens.

As usual, products were compared based on brand and package size.

Bon Bini leads on price and product availability

Bon Bini secured the top position, offering the lowest price on 35 products.

Mangusa Rio and Mangusa Hypermarket tied for second place with 32 products each.

Centrum Piscadera, Centrum Mahaai, and Esperamos share the third position with 15 products each.

Bon Bini also had the largest assortment available, stocking 106 of the 128 items surveyed — the broadest range among all participating supermarkets.

What products were surveyed?

The study focused on commonly purchased staple goods, including:

Rice, flour, beans, sugar, oil

Coffee, tea, milk, lemonade

Soap, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, toilet paper

Laundry detergent, disinfectant, bleach

Significant price differences

After analyzing the data, Fundashon pa Konsumidó found price differences ranging from as little as 1 cent to as much as 10.94 guilders for the same product across different stores.

All 128 products and their corresponding lowest prices are presented in a public comparison table, allowing consumers to easily see which supermarket offers the best deal for each item.

The foundation says the goal is to empower consumers with clear information at a time when grocery bills remain a major concern for many households in Curaçao.
