WILLEMSTAD – Bon Bini Supermarket currently offers the lowest prices for daily groceries on Curaçao, according to the latest price comparison report from Fundashon pa Konsumidó. The study, conducted between May 30 and June 7, compared the prices of 126 essential items across seventeen supermarkets on the island.
Mangusa Rio and Mangusa Hypermarket ranked second and third respectively in terms of affordability.
The foundation reviewed prices on a wide range of everyday products including rice, coffee, beans, tea, cooking oil, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies. Personal care items such as soap and toothpaste were also included in the comparison.
The results reveal significant price differences between supermarkets. For example, a 85-gram jar of Nescafé costs 6.99 guilders at Bon Bini, while the same product sells for 11.69 guilders at Boulevard Marketplace. Similarly, a 660-gram pack of Quaker oatmeal ranged from 9.96 guilders at Vreugdenhil to 16.75 guilders at Ruyterkade.
Bon Bini Tops in Value, Mangusa Rio in Variety
Bon Bini had the lowest price on 36 of the 126 items surveyed, while Mangusa Rio and Mangusa Hypermarket followed closely with 32 and 31 cheapest items, respectively.
When it comes to product availability, Mangusa Rio led with 104 of the 126 products in stock, followed by Mangusa Hypermarket (102) and Bon Bini (99).
The Consumer Foundation says these findings aim to help shoppers make informed decisions and encourage supermarkets to remain competitive, particularly as many island residents continue to feel the impact of high living costs.
