Boat in distress rescued off the coast of Bullenbaai

Local | By Press release September 30, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - On Saturday morning, September 28th, the Maritime Operational Center (MOC) of the Coast Guard Caribbean Region received an emergency call regarding a boat in distress at sea. The vessel, carrying three local crew members, experienced engine failure off the coast of Bullenbaai, causing it to drift toward the shoreline.

The Coast Guard quickly dispatched a helicopter to assess the situation and sent a Metal Shark unit to assist the stranded boat. Upon the Metal Shark's arrival, they found that the boat had already run aground. Fortunately, all three crew members were safely onshore.

The Metal Shark crew successfully freed the boat and towed it to Boca Sami. The three crew members were also transported to the location. Upon arrival at Boca Sami, the fire department was called in to assist with removing water from the boat using a special pump.

The quick response and coordination of the Coast Guard and emergency services ensured that the situation was resolved without any injuries.
