ORANJESTAD - In Aruba, three political parties have introduced the bill to open marriage to people of the same sex. It is remarkable that the government party Raiz is one of the petitioners. Officially, the Aruban government is still waiting for legal advice.
The parties Raiz, Accion 21 and MAS say they fight for equality for all citizens. On December 6, the court ruled that Aruba and Curaçao must open marriage to gay couples. Curaçao is appealing against this ruling to the Supreme Court in The Hague. Aruba has not yet made a decision.
