WILLEMSTAD - Steven Croes, a member of parliament, emphasizes the importance of balancing nature and beach development. He has shown support both for those opposing construction and for residents who express a need for more recreational and entertainment areas.
During an information session in Lagun, where Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas provided explanations, Croes presented the idea of bringing all involved parties together to reach a development consensus acceptable to everyone. Pisas agreed with Croes’ suggestion.
Key stakeholders in this process include fishermen, local residents, and experts from the CARMABI organization, as well as the Ministries of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning (VVRP) and Public Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN). The central concern remains that any future development in areas like Lagun should preserve the natural features and unique characteristics of the beach and surrounding area.
Croes also spoke with young people living in the Lagun and Jeremi areas, who expressed the need for development, noting that recreational and entertainment options are currently very limited.
Croes stated that he understands both perspectives: those who oppose excessive beach development, and those who see the need for a balance between nature and new structures.
