WILLEMSTAD - An antibiotic-resistant bacteria is potentially endangering the health of visitors to the Curacao Rif Mangrove Park. As a result, kayak tours have not been organized for the past six months.
Recently, Member of Parliament Rennox Calmes of the TPK party raised written questions in the Statenvragen (parliamentary inquiries), hoping for clarity from the government. Currently, an investigation is underway to ascertain the truth behind the rumors.
The management of the Mangrove Park is under the responsibility of Carmabi, in collaboration with the Ministry of Traffic, Transport, and Urban Planning (VVRP). The organization is taking samples to be analyzed at the ADC (Analytical Diagnostic Center).
While the outcome of the government-initiated investigation is not yet available, Carmabi's director, Paul Stokkermans, has stated that they are taking precautions and do not wish to endanger the visitors of the park.
The exact date for resuming tours, including kayak tours, is still unknown.
