THE HAGUE - VVD Member of Parliament Aukje de Vries has been appointed as the new spokesperson for Kingdom Relations, taking over the role from her party colleague Ingrid Michon. De Vries previously served in the Rutte IV cabinet as State Secretary for Finance, where she was responsible for overseeing the resolution of the childcare benefits scandal and managing customs affairs.
The change comes in the wake of a recent government reshuffle, which saw De Vries and several other VVD members return to the parliamentary faction, while others transitioned to the new Schoof cabinet. This reshuffle prompted a redistribution of responsibilities within the party, leading to De Vries's new role.
Before her appointment as State Secretary in early 2022, De Vries was an active member of the Kingdom Relations Committee for almost a year, gaining valuable experience that will now inform her work as the VVD's spokesperson on Kingdom Relations issues.
